Biography
Mr. Damon B. Smothers was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a proud product of the New Orleans Public School system.  Mr. Smothers attended McDonogh#39 Elementary School, Francis W. Gregory Jr. High School, and  McDonogh#35 Senior High School.  Afterwards Mr. Smothers graduated from Tulane University in 1996 receiving his B.A. in Psychology.  Mr. Smothers also received his Master of Education with a concentration in School Psychology from Louisiana State University In Shreveport in 2000, and also completed his Specialist in School Psychology Degree in 2001 from LSU-S.  Mr. Smothers Thesis topic was "The Effects of Reading To Read Intervention on Students With Perceived Reading Disabilities" completed August 2000. Mr. Smothers is currently a School Psychologist and Licensed Educational Psychologist in private practice in Bakersfield, CA.  He is the CEO of Smothers And Associates Psychological and Educational Services as well as the Executive Director of Smothers Academy Inc. In addition to this Mr. Smothers is a Certified Beyond Consequences Instructor, and a Certified Teaching Pro-Social Skills (TPS) Instructor utilizing Aggression Replacement Techniques. Mr. Smothers also enjoys his membership with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.   

While an undergraduate and graduate student, Mr. Smothers was involved in various research topics devising strategies and interventions for students who were at risk for learning disabilities, and behavior disorders.  Mr. Smothers has done extensive research in the area of violence and aggression among youth, and he continues to collaborate with professors from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA regarding this very important topic.  

The parents of Mr. Damon Smothers are Mrs. Helen Smothers who is a graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans completing her B.A. in Education and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.  Mrs. Smothers is currently a retired teacher residing in New Orleans, La. and Mr. Mackie Smothers his father who is deceased, also graduated from Dillard University where he completed his B.A. in Sociology, and was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Mr. Mackie Smothers retired as a computer programmer for the United States Department of Agriculture.
 

Mr. Damon Smothers is married to Dechelle Smothers a 1994 graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana where she received her B.S. in Biochemistry. Mrs. Dechelle Smothers works as a Criminalist in the Kern County Regional Criminalistics Laboratory Forensic Biology Unit. Mrs. Smothers is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.  Mr. Smothers has had a life long commitment to the education and welfare of all children.  His accomplishments over the years have proven to be worthy of much praise and admiration.
